What really started out as "Lemon Drops"...a nifty little line of earrings created on the A Train heading back and forth to my apartment in upper Manhattan from classes at FIT... has evolved into on u jewelry today. on u was founded in 1989 as a side line to my fashion stylist career in Manhattan’s Fashion District. Back then, I would hand sew bracelets every day during my commute to and from work. At our home in Newtown, Pennsylvania, my husband Greg and I would work until late at night at an old card table set up in our living room just creating and enjoying the independence that we were gaining. Initially, the on u line featured watch pieces and hand sewn bracelets and earrings made with antique, vintage and Bakelite buttons. Quaint boutiques and wonderful artsy shops throughout the United States carried the line, while it was also being carried at Barneys New York, Barneys Japan and Bloomingdales. I find inspiration for my designs in everything that I do...maybe because that's all I do... think of new ways to take that little bit of something and create a ''look' from it. I live it. I love it... After a move to Richmond, Virginia in 1993, the on u line continued to evolve, grow and thrive. I now feature intricately made hand beaded necklaces, bracelets, earrings and anklets that are created with glass, vintage and semi-precious beads. Many of the pieces include antique or vintage buttons as a finishing touch (I remember my roots!). When you take a closer look at my work you'll see that each design is meticulously created with fascinating knots and colors; features that truly separate the on u line from the ordinary. I'm proud to say that my line is available only at a few select high-end boutiques throughout the country. You can also purchase my line at a number of art shows during the year, here at onujewelry.com, or at my studio in Richmond, Virginia. Thank you for all of your kind words and inspiration! You're more than welcome to visit the Studio at any time, but please call first to let me know when you'll be stopping by... I wouldn't want to miss you! All the best! Donna 804-615-1198 |
